Never has mankind seen beings like the Enhanced; superhuman, supernatural, gods that walk the earth as the brothers and sisters of mere mortals. None know why the Enhanced exist, or how their Minute Silence – the coma in which their powers develop, that lasts for a minute precisely – is triggered; not even the Enhanced. As they try to find their place in the world, some of the hundreds of super-powered beings find themselves drawn toward a single focal point.

And that focal point? The city of Steel Mountain, Arizona, has seen its fair share of revolutions. It became a massive industrial hub during the booming first years of heavy industry, accepting raw goods from the four corners of the nation on the mighty train tracks that pierce the city to the refineries at its heart; then as the industrial age passed, it became a monolith dedicated to a past time. The factories and refineries stand derelict and empty; the train tracks, nothing but dark veins that trace the past of a once-great city.

Among them are Mark Jugg, newly-Enhanced and looking for a cause; Elizabeth Tamworth, also known as Warhorse, ex-military and tough as nails; and Cory Mallory, “The First Enhanced”, a speed demon with good intentions. Their fates twine together as greater, darker forces interact and conspire, threatening the established order – and the world – with their machinations.
